About me

My name is Nathan John Fuller, and growing up there was little I loved more than a good western movie, usually watched alongside my Taid—the Welsh word for grandfather. He was hard of hearing and would turn the television volume up to maximum, so loud that people joked you could hear the gunfights halfway down the street. Those afternoons spent in front of the screen planted a lifelong fascination with the American West and the people who shaped it. As a child, the only fancy dress I would wear was a cowboy outfit, and in many ways, that fascination never left me.
I grew up in the small village of Brymbo near Wrexham in North Wales, a close-knit community where everyone knew everyone. It was the kind of place where friendships were forged early and tended to last a lifetime. Even now, at 51, I still live locally and remain close with friends I’ve known since childhood. Like most communities, Brymbo has changed enormously over the years, but its roots—and mine—remain firmly planted.
At the age of twenty-one, I was fortunate enough to travel to the United States and drive across the country from Ohio to California, more than once. It is only when you make that journey yourself that you truly begin to understand the sheer scale of the land. Those long miles offer a new appreciation for the distances once travelled by people with nothing more than a horse, a rifle, and their resolve. That experience deepened my respect for the history I had long admired and made the stories of the West feel tangible and real.
I have always loved historical fiction, from British medieval tales and Roman histories to, of course, stories of the Old West. What draws me most is not just the events themselves, but the people behind them—their motivations, fears, contradictions, and resilience. History becomes far more compelling when viewed through a human lens rather than as legend alone.
Beyond writing and history, I am immensely proud to be the father of two children, Harry and Laura. Both are grown now and finding their own way in the world, and watching them do so with strength, kindness, and independence fills me with pride every day.
I am married to Julie, whom I met in 1997. We share a love of travelling and, just as importantly, a love of simply enjoying each other’s company wherever we happen to be. Whether near or far from home, those shared moments matter most.
Above all, I am hugely thankful for my family and friends. They mean everything to me, grounding me, supporting me, and reminding me who I am and where I come from. Any story I tell, on the page or otherwise, is shaped by that sense of belonging.
